For thinking, generating ideas and exploring perspectives
Visiting fictional worlds or diving into an author’s bibliography is my favourite way of discovering new insights. The search is rarely deliberate. In full transparency, unexpected thoughts or ideas sparked by a book’s passage are the most enjoyable.
Multiple books (2-3) are usually kept on rotation at all times. Non-fiction guides better decision-making in career, investing, or personal life, while fiction inspires through alternative ways of living, a character’s journey, or imagined worlds. Both genres usually explore human nature through philosophy and psychology, as well as decision making related to business and economics.
Authors that have influenced my thinking:
- Nassim Nicholas Taleb for his approach to risk and uncertainty
- Ayn Rand for her boldness in promoting objectivism
- Derek Sivers for his aphorisms and minimalist approach to life
- Ted Chiang's short stories for a unique blend of science fiction and philosophy
